I’d love it though I’ll be away from the 9th through the 18th

@Sandeep Bansal Wow, seriously? You rock! I'll DM you my email so you can get in touch there and I can send you the details.

I'm looking for help with tech set-up for the Klaviyo domain of a start-up I advise (DMARC, DKIM, Google Postmaster). I tried to muddle through it, but it wasn't set up right. They're very budget-constrained (I work for equity). Anyone able to knock it out for a small flat fee?

#jobs-and-talent - February 01, 2025 at 06:16 AM

Looking for recos for a small social media agency or kickass freelancer that has deep experience both with Meta and with growing a YouTube channel. This is for a non-ecommerce client of mine (concierge nursing service), but no one does social better than e-commerce people IMO. It would be awesome if they have experience targeting both younger and older adults (especially over 65), since we are targeting nurses and clients depending on the channel. And incredible if they are in or near Phoenix, AZ, but not required. Budget is not set yet, but I'm hoping to find someone around $3000-3500/mo who can do it all; the company is still a pretty small startup.

#everything-marketing - July 07, 2024 at 06:58 AM

@Josh Hahn as I understood it, those writers and editors opt in to the program. But I'm not sure exactly how that goes down.

#tech-talk - June 24, 2024 at 06:35 AM

@Shin Takeda Your comments about Webflow alarmed me so I brought it to the attention of one of my clients that this might be a concern. They investigated and got more rate info. I think you had a miscommunication with your friend. Their enterprise lite plan is $15K/year and goes up to 10MM monthly visits. Is your friend getting more visitors than that?

#email-sms - May 29, 2024 at 06:29 PM

@Tobi Chapman ah, got it. Yes, this makes sense. So there is still the questions of how many days. If we use opens (excluding Apple machine opens), I still feel like even 3 days is too long. We are sending campaigns about every 2 or 3 days. Thoughts?

#email-sms - May 29, 2024 at 04:47 PM

@Tobi Chapman this is a perfumes and colognes store (known brands sold in full size and decants—smaller sample and travel size atomizers).

Can you explain your last sentence? What opens are you suggesting we could exclude and which would count?

#email-sms - May 28, 2024 at 05:47 PM

They get a pretty low click rate though, so almost nothing would be attributed if we did that (even at average click rates of 4 or 5% that seems very limiting

#email-sms - May 28, 2024 at 05:27 PM

Email attribution question: Klaviyo's default attribution window is 5 days, which seems absolutely bonkers to me. What do you set yours to and why?

I was reviewing an email that my client's agency claimed was an awesome performer and saw that half the dollars attributed to it was from a customer who placed a very large order 3 days after opening (not clicking) the email it was attributed to (and it was a customer who bought several trials sizes of different varieties over a few months before buying this full-size bottle of one of them). There was even another email she received the day after this one, but didn't open. This kind of stuff could really throw off email results evaluation, especially for a small account. The agency wants to "compromise" at 3 days, but I think anything over 2 is too much. Thoughts?

Has anyone done a media outreach program with Consumer Product Events (a dba of Brown + Dutch Public Relations, Inc.) where they include you in a product mailer and press release to about 25 writers/editors looking for products to cover (especially for gift guides)? Just wondering how productive it is in terms of getting coverage.

#everything-marketing - May 24, 2024 at 06:28 PM

@Madison Lee how do you get the 3D model made to use within a platform like this?

#everything-marketing - May 14, 2024 at 11:25 PM

@Rob Golterman This looks very promising. I'll check it out further. Thank you!

#everything-marketing - May 14, 2024 at 11:23 PM

@Wyatt Kern, Thanks, I don't want to use a page builder because it needs to works for hundreds of PDPs, but it sounds like you are also recommending an app? I wasn't clear on that last part where you said "it does both the small bubble cart button on the bottom in addition to un cart upsells"... can you clarify please?

#everything-marketing - May 10, 2024 at 05:23 AM

I know there are. But they don't all enable the kind of UI that I'm talking about. I'm trying to find a good way of handling multiple sizes and colors.

#everything-marketing - May 10, 2024 at 05:22 AM

No, it's not cross-selling. It's just having an ATC button always on the bottom of the screen so you don't have to scroll back up to find it after reading through a long PDP

#everything-marketing - May 10, 2024 at 05:18 AM

I'm not using it for cross-selling. Just to have an add-to-cart always on screen on a PDP. So I just want it to be small at the bottom when someone is scrolling and reading through the PDP. It doesn't need a product photo or stars because people know what product they are looking at.

#everything-marketing - May 10, 2024 at 05:15 AM

Maybe... I would want it to be more minimalistic before it's clicked on, but I like the UI of the dropdown selectors once it expands.

#everything-marketing - May 10, 2024 at 05:09 AM

I want to add a sticky add to cart (especially for mobile) on a client's site but having trouble finding good examples of how this can be done elegantly for a product with multiple sizes and colors. I don't like the ones that just pre-select the default color and only show the size selector and add-to-cart button (like on shopdoen.com, for example). I'm also not sure I like the Skims.com approach of having a "select a size" button that jumps you back to the part of the PDP that has the size and color selector buttons. Does anyone have a good example that lets you choose size first and then color all within the sticky add-to-cart environment?

#email-sms - April 30, 2024 at 05:06 AM

@Rishi Ghiraiya It's my understanding that sending some text-based emails (perhaps that look more personal from the company founder) can help to land in the inbox and get opens to reverse a negative trend. Might be worth looking into.

#paid-media - April 30, 2024 at 03:39 AM

It may be a disclaimer issue, or it could be something else google doesn't like about the way you present the product on the site. I assume you've looked at the details in their policies about "Personalized advertising: personal hardships"? That will tell you what they think constitutes something being "personalized".

#paid-media - April 30, 2024 at 03:27 AM

@Youssef Mroueh late to the conversation but it could even be the copy on the landing page or site that you are linking to. A few years ago google stopped serving our ads when I was with a weight management brand because we were missing a disclaimer on our site ("Results not typical...."). Of course, they didn't tell us that was the issue so it took personal contacts to get the info.

#jobs-and-talent - April 16, 2024 at 07:06 AM

I don't have a pay range yet. I imagine it will depend on experience.

#jobs-and-talent - April 16, 2024 at 05:44 AM

Looking to hire a part-time content marketer (not an agency--we want a remote "in-house" or contract employee) to help a DTC perfume seller create articles based on good SEO keywords and do outreach to gain backlinks. If the person is a good writer and doesn't have much keyword research/SEO or backlinking experience, that's okay as long as they are willing to learn that part. We would provide a course on how to do it and access to SEMRush.
The main requirements are
• Good writing skills (must be native US English speaker)
• An interest inwriting about fragrances
• A comfort level with direct outreach to publishers and blogs (ideally with some knowledge of outreach and follow-up tools).
• An interest in learning to do keyword and backlink research
This could grow into a full-time role in time, especially if the person has diverse digital marketing skills. Please DM with resume and relevant writing sample if interested.

#general-chat - April 16, 2024 at 05:16 AM

How do you handle transactions Shopify flags as potentially fraudulent, particularly for Facebook Shop? We got a "medium risk" of fraud on a large order through Facebook Shop (with no credit card CVV or phone number because Shop doesn't require them). Do we take the risk and send with signature confirmation?

Do we message the customer and ask for CVV and phone number? If we had a phone number, what would we ask the customer to get confidence that they aren't fraudulent? At what point or risk level do we just not take any chances and not fulfill the order?

Any other approaches we can take to protect ourselves without losing the sale in such a case?

#paid-media - April 11, 2024 at 02:47 AM

@Andrew Anabi do you make all those campaigns exact duplicates with the same settings and the same ad sets and ad creatives?

#jobs-and-talent - April 03, 2024 at 07:44 PM

I'm looking to meet some talented US-based junior marketers with digital marketing skills (especially social media and content creation, a general design eye, and perhaps some familiarity with Shopify) who are interested in remote fractional/hourly work and want to expand their marketing skill set. I am a fractional Head of Marketing for very early stage DTC e-commerce startups and occasionally come across a potential client who is flying solo and wants to just have me handle all the marketing work.

It doesn't make sense at my rate for me to do a lot of legwork and execution, so I thought it would be great to have a couple of people I can turn to when the need arises who can be like my right arm and I would set strategy and coach them to handle a lot of the execution.

I have a potential client that this could work for now who is in the sun-wear apparel space. The founder only has her products in local retail in Florida and is interested in building a direct-to-consumer Shopify business. Anyone interested or able to recommend someone I should check out?

#paid-media - April 02, 2024 at 10:23 PM

Both are still tiny stores though, so we can't go too upscale! And fragrance provider has a value proposition, so customers aren't affluent.

#paid-media - April 02, 2024 at 10:22 PM

Yes, a mix of "UGC-style" and more polished videos. One is a sun-wear apparel brand and the other is a fragrance supplier (multi-brand), so both have some degree of premium positioning.

#paid-media - April 02, 2024 at 10:19 PM

@Peter Quadrel maybe 5 base static designs (with graphic text variations) and 6 or 7 base videos with 2-3 hook variations each? I actually may need this for a couple of different clients so the balance may vary a bit between them, but this gives an idea.

#paid-media - April 02, 2024 at 10:00 PM

@Peter Quadrel and @Andrew Watson I came looking for this same information, but also wondering if you have any freelancers or small team to recommend for getting a variety of ad creatives made affordably for testing a variety of ads for a new brand launch on Meta... some static, some video with some of these different themes (not UGC since I can get that elsewhere).

#everything-marketing - February 27, 2024 at 06:44 AM

@Caroline Pougnier Thanks!

#everything-marketing - February 26, 2024 at 11:30 PM

Thanks @Cody Wittick, do you have any examples of brands you've worked with (or not) that have a great cache of creator content that I can search by hashtag on TikTok or IG? My first priority is showing this "old school" client what this type of program looks like and get him excited about this approach.

#everything-marketing - February 26, 2024 at 11:01 PM

Looking for great examples of creator use on social media by personal care/HBA brands. I have a client launching new haircare and shaving brands/novel products who I think would benefit from working with creators but he is unfamiliar with that whole world. He asked me to send him some examples.

Can you recommend brands that are using creators well? Ideally, not "influencers" with large followings, but just getting out there with product gifting and saturating TikTok or Instagram with great content.

Also, let me know if you (or someone you'd recommend) work with start-up brands on implementing these types of programs in case I am able to get him to go in that direction and need some help. Thanks!

#paid-media - February 04, 2024 at 11:18 PM

@Ishan Varshney Thanks, these are helpful. I'll DM you to set up a meeting.

#paid-media - February 02, 2024 at 11:39 PM

@Ishan Varshney can you just show me the e-commerce sites they've fully designed (or redesigned) and built that they are most proud of? It's hard to tell what their part is on these sites when it's a "consultation" or they're just "engaged with" a company.

#paid-media - February 02, 2024 at 07:41 PM

@Karolina Smith just DM’d

#paid-media - February 02, 2024 at 07:39 PM

@Hasnain thank you. Can you first send me a link to their website or portfolio please? Feel free to DM.

#paid-media - February 02, 2024 at 06:56 AM

Does anyone have or know of any great e-commerce sites using Wordpress + WooCommerce? I'm not so familiar with what can be done on Woo for improved user experience (this client's site is really simple right now) and would love to get some nice examples for a potential project.

Also, if you know a good lower-cost web designer/developer for Wordpress/Woocommerce, I'd love to get connected to start scoping out the project and putting some numbers together for the client. Thx!

#jobs-and-talent - December 18, 2023 at 08:19 PM

@Julio Miles I haven't been on here for a while, so I may have missed the boat. But if you're still looking for help, I think I'd be a great fit since I have experienced with a behavior-based tool for overcoming bad habits (in this case, overeating). I'm a marketing Swiss army knife, so let me know if I can help!

#paid-media - October 25, 2023 at 01:01 AM

@Geordie Frost sounds like a great plan!

#paid-media - October 23, 2023 at 05:30 AM

If you're planning to launch into retail, I like #1. If direct-to-consumer only, #4 would work too. What you need to think about is how each of these would translate into other SKUs... how would you differentiate different products in the line with each design. It's best to do that exploration so you can see which work best for SKU proliferation, otherwise you may start launching and realize it's not as conducive to building out a line as it could be.

I agree with @Dhruv Sood that the product name gets a little lost, especially on the 4th design... I would consider reducing the size of the heart to make more room to put a frame around the product name or at least enlarge the font a bit.

#cx-retention - October 07, 2023 at 07:37 AM

Can anyone recommend a group or network for CPG start-up investors? A former client of mine who had a successful exit is now on the lookout for interesting CPG or DTC companies to invest in and would probably enjoy comparing notes with other investors, especially more seasoned ones. He's in Southern California in case that matters. @Moiz Ali you must know of some?

#cx-retention - October 07, 2023 at 07:31 AM

Wait, is this a google display ad? Isn't it trademark infringement to reproduce the Google logo in an ad like that?

#paid-media - October 06, 2023 at 06:57 PM

It depends what you're trying to find out. If you want to verify how people heard about your brand, it's a good, quick way to get that info. And it's great for any other quickie questions. If you want more in-depth understanding of what their brand/product perceptions are, motivations, perceived competitors, etc., I think it's better to ask for a call or send an online survey.

Like @Peter Quadrel, I'm a big fan of exit intent surveys. They can be tricky if you have an outsized number of people buying on mobile (unless the tech has improved since I used it), but they are great for understanding what it is about your product/messaging/offer that might be holding people back from buying.

#everything-marketing - September 29, 2023 at 03:38 AM

I’m a single opt-in fan as well. It’s just too easy these days for people to miss the double opt-in email with crowded inboxes or have it end up in spam (ahem, Outlook!) The non-engagers get cleared quickly. That being said, i could see doing double opt-in for promotional email collection methods like giveaways

#paid-media - August 10, 2023 at 06:10 PM

@Andrew D It's hard to say without knowing what your product is. But if the new gen is more expensive and has more features, it may be that new customers will still want a more "introductory" model to try out your product without investing a lot. In general, if it's a high-priced item, you would want to find that segment of consumers who are more price sensitive or wary of investing in something new to buy the original one at a discount while still marketing your new gen model with all the bells and whistles to your customers who already like your product and would be willing to pay to upgrade.

In my head I'm thinking of something like Roomba vacuum. I've always been curious about these but don't really need one. If a friend forwarded me a great deal on an early model that they were trying to sell out, I might give it a try. Just think about how much you would spend per acquisition on ads and that tells you how much you could discount these on a referral program.

#paid-media - August 09, 2023 at 11:22 PM

Could you do a referral program where you offer your past customers a discount off your next-gen product when it comes out for every sale they refer of your gen 1 product? You could just do it manually using email since it seems like you still have a somewhat engaged list of past customers. It would be a lot cheaper than creating ads and ramping up media just to clear out old inventory.

#announcements - April 27, 2023 at 06:12 PM

It's been a while since I've tried cost caps, but I had the same issue as Moiz. Even when I would set them 20% about the account's average CPA, the budget wouldn't spend. I got the sense that Facebook was just ultra conservative if the algo wasn't certain it could hit below the cap. They just never worked for me.

#top-posts - April 26, 2023 at 09:16 PM

@Rina Goldman I have a luxury beauty client (primarily nail & lip) that might be interested in a collab if the products are complementary and luxury level. Feel free to DM me with more info.
