Has anyone done a media outreach program with Consumer Product Events (a dba of Brown + Dutch Public Relations, Inc.) where they include you in a product mailer and press release to about 25 writers/editors looking for products to cover (especially for gift guides)? Just wondering how productive it is in terms of getting coverage.

It’s glorified spam. Best bet is to find specific journalists that would be ideal for your product and pitch them on a story idea that you think would resonate with their audience.

@Josh Hahn as I understood it, those writers and editors opt in to the program. But I'm not sure exactly how that goes down.
