Info may be a little outdated and not 100% accurate as it's from 2023 and my own research

I'm with Matt, but will be more direct. Avoid ShipBob unless you have no B2B and a low SKU count. Also, ensure you are going into a ShipBob facility and not a partner facility. Here's the list:

I don't think Passport are set-up to ship from Canada to the US. Flavorcloud are. You could also look to use a company like Reliable Logistics, Chit Chats or Stallion
#logistics-operations - March 20, 2025 at 05:13 PM
I'd be happy to chat about this

<@U084013P8BH>, yes it will workout better for you. You will be importing to the US from China and assessed duties and taxes based on cost of goods vs shipping from China to UK to US and paying duties and taxes based on the sale value of the items. I'm helping another UK apparel brand with this at the moment.

Check your contract for loss allowance. Let's say they have a 0.5% loss allowance - this means anything over 0.5% they have to reimburse you for, usually at cost or landed cost. If it's not in the agreement, they are likely an inexperienced 3PL.
Mis-picking/ mis-shipping products create inaccurate inventory. I'd be pushing for them to reimburse for the loss. You outsourced to a fulfillment provider for a reason, trusting their expertise as a service provider. They messed up at no fault of your own, so they are liable.
My comment for Aaron and Chad - why use a 3PL if they do not have responsibility for errors? Every 3PL I have worked at has had some sort of policy around covering losses if caused by 3PL idiocy.
#logistics-operations - January 21, 2025 at 04:45 PM
I have worked at two 3PLs that use it, and like others have said, it's buggy, and lacks features that are built in to other software such as ShipHero. Example: there is no in built TMS for rate-optimization, so Extensiv often pairs with TechDinamic's product TechShip. Same for integrations - it's usually TechDinamics. Also, Cart Rover (and Extensiv product) has non-existent customer service.

Hi @Didrik Dimmen, I have had positive experiences with ShipMonk and have heard the same from mid-market to enterprise brands using them for DTC. All 3PLs have their issues, because working with a 3PL there will be issues, at any of them... it's because they are processing hundreds of thousands of transactional operations on a daily/weekly/monthly basis.
#logistics-operations - January 08, 2025 at 02:46 PM
@Bart van Mill, I'd look further inland like Nevada. Cheaper storage, lower average shipping zone and less punitive taxes compared to California.
#logistics-operations - January 07, 2025 at 07:43 PM
I'd look past California due for tax reasons. Is there a reason you want California specifically? Large B2B customer based there?
#logistics-operations - December 13, 2024 at 02:38 AM
That's great to hear, @Alex Schinasi. We built that Global-e integration at Shiphero while I was there for a big apparel client
#canada - November 19, 2024 at 02:26 PM
is also a great option
#australia - November 13, 2024 at 10:36 PM
Hey Thomas, when you say "finance operations" does the tool help with managing operations costs e.g. manufacturing, fulfillment, shipping?
#australia - November 13, 2024 at 02:42 AM
I'm ex Dunedin, and have been in Canada for 15 years. I have worked at multiple 3PLs and couriers and now own a consulting business (consulting mostly ecommerce brands, NZTE, and some logistics companies/ startups). @Amanda Purchon - we should connect!
#australia - November 13, 2024 at 02:39 AM
Thanks @Ryan Badke!
@Simba Gwamba, this is one of the areas I specialize in. I'm a Beachhead advisor for NZTE- focused on providing advice to NZ companies on expanding into North America. Happy to give some advice on shipping dtc from Australia to the US (ddp or ddu) or shipping to a 3PL in the US and having them ship dtc. I'll always do a free 30 min discovery/ advice call for anyone.
#logistics-operations - November 13, 2024 at 01:10 AM
Could a 3PL lease it? How long is the lease? How big is the space?
#general-chat - November 12, 2024 at 05:36 PM
Hey everyone - happy Q4 and almost Black Friday. I hope you are all feeling excited and prepared!
I have been self-employed via my own Corp. for almost 1.5 years as a logistics consultant and have worked with Sleepgram, Nanoleaf, Kudos, Verb Energy, & the New Zealand Trade Commission (unfortunately not working with Murray from Flight of the Conchords) to name a few.
I'm just wrapping up a large 3PL RFP for a rapidly growing brand. I will have additional capacity in January (I'm also bringing on a consultant) - so if anyone does have a rough Q4 (hopefully not!!!), I would be happy to chat - feel free to DM. Also, I work directly for brands - completely 3PL agnostic!
#canada - November 12, 2024 at 08:20 AM
I just recommended two Canadian accountants last week. Both came highly recommended from eCommerce clients of mine. I'll send you a DM.
#logistics-operations - November 12, 2024 at 08:18 AM
Hey Alan - give
- they ship a lot of furniture and have fantastic courier rates for big and bulky items. They are a 3PL, so not sure if that's necessarily a fit for you if you are doing your own fulfillment today.#logistics-operations - July 29, 2024 at 03:04 PM
I agree with Matt on this.
If you have a simple business profile and shipments are over 1 lb, I think Flexport could be a good option. If you have B2B needs and are shipping under 1lb, I'd look at other 3PLs.
#logistics-operations - July 17, 2024 at 01:35 PM
Hey Harsh, also if you're looking at Canada I can personally recommend
, , and ShipHero Canada. I helped set up Section 321 at Shiphero with the amazing Karen Schwartz, wrote the majority of the section 321 content at Stalco when I led sales there, and know the other two really well.#logistics-operations - July 16, 2024 at 03:36 PM
He is the account rep/ sales lead in Europe for an electronics client of mine. Small world indeed!
#logistics-operations - July 16, 2024 at 02:54 PM
I like Janssen as well, they have re-branded to Logicall.
My contact there is Martijn Backus
#logistics-operations - July 16, 2024 at 12:32 PM
XB Fulfillment, but only for clients with larger volume, eg 1000 orders or more a day
#logistics-operations - July 11, 2024 at 02:58 PM
James & James are good to deal with
#logistics-operations - July 08, 2024 at 04:32 PM
are based in LA area and deal with a bunch of beverage brands.
is another LA based 3PL that could handle this, they work with start-ups
#logistics-operations - July 08, 2024 at 04:31 PM
Honestly, any small 3PL can handle this. I'd move on from Flexport if they can't handle returns because you're just adding additional cost by staying with them and then using another 3PL to process returns
#logistics-operations - July 01, 2024 at 04:58 PM
Viktor, which countries do you primarily ship to? What's the commodity? Do you have any retail/B2B as well s DTC ?
#logistics-operations - June 19, 2024 at 11:59 PM
Hi Brady, they sound like a 4PL - they mention a network of warehouses. Typically this model doesn't work well unless you have a really simple profile. Fulfill works on commission from the 3PLs they recommend, if you're ok with paying a premium.
#logistics-operations - June 19, 2024 at 03:09 PM
Hi Amanda, based on the packing size, here are the dimensional weights based on courier dim factors (dim divisors). I bolded the larger of dimensional weight and scale weight for each:
• 139 divisor = 1.26 lb dim weight vs 0.9375 lb (15oz) scale weight
• 166 divisor = 1.05 lb dim weight vs 0.9375 lb (15oz) scale weight
• 192 divisor = 0.91 lb dim weight vs 0.9375 lb (15oz) scale weight
• 225 divisor = 0.78 lb dim weight vs 0.9375 lb (15oz) scale weight
• 250 divisor = 0.70 lb dim weight vs 0.9375 lb (15oz) scale weight
Like @Aaron Alpeter suggested, they may be using an expedited service, or they may have a bunch of margin added on top of the courier rate.

@Mike Thompson
2 ShipHero SaaS 3PLs in Australia:
• (have t check with the guys if they do apparel)
(these guys are next level)
#logistics-operations - May 31, 2024 at 02:35 PM
It's not something companies usually advertise, because everyone would ask for it as it essentially removes all the risk from the importer/brand.
#logistics-operations - May 31, 2024 at 02:34 PM
Importing and filing. Some companies will act as IOR and/or VOR for non-resident importers.
#logistics-operations - May 29, 2024 at 12:13 AM
You could also find a Canadian company to act as an agent for you and manage tax obligations
#logistics-operations - May 29, 2024 at 12:13 AM
No, you covered it off well. You shouldn't have to remit until you hit $30k in sales.
.
#logistics-operations - May 24, 2024 at 03:34 PM
I'll add, that final bullet point is not Stord specific, it's for any 3PL.
#logistics-operations - May 24, 2024 at 03:33 PM
My notes on Stord:
• in my opinion, their OMS (client portal) is industry leading
• Athletic Greens chose them as their 3PL, their COO then left for Earth Breeze and now Earth Breeze is a client of Stord. That's a pretty strong endorsement.
• Some of their clients: Fly by Jing, Tula, Native, Vshred, Super Coffee, Legion. Someone from Moiz's Native team might be able to share some good feedback on Stord.
• They recently acquired Propack, who are experienced and have a good reputation in the the US and Canada.
• I think with any 3PL, the service level you get is typically tied to the specific experience with products and channels like yours, but then also size alignment. E.g. if you are a small eCom brand and go to a large 3PL, you are probably going to have a bad experience or not the tailored experience you might expect. So my advice is to line up your expected logistics spend to their annual revenue. If your DTC order volume is under 10,000 orders per month and your revenue contribution is under 1% of their total revenue, I would keep looking

power! Nice work @Will Mahon-Heap
#logistics-operations - April 27, 2024 at 01:33 AM
@Matt Hertz - ThirdPerson.co - there's also @Mike Thompson &
@Aaron Alpeter! Really great collection of minds 😃
#logistics-operations - April 26, 2024 at 07:07 PM
The benefit to the 3PL is that they can pick/pack the order on the weekend and stage them on the dock for Monday. Often larger 3PLs will have a Monday morning courier pick-up and a later day pick-up to support Monday's increase in volume
#logistics-operations - April 26, 2024 at 07:06 PM
Mike and Jason nailed it
Most 3PLs charge a premium for weekends and if they don't and run a 7 day operation, they are hiding the increased cost elsewhere (blending into the fulfillment rate or increased margin on courier accounts)
#jobs-and-talent - April 26, 2024 at 04:03 AM
@Fred McKinnon, I have a few folks that are fractional I can introduce you to

A little ANZAC (🦘) assist, I'm a kiwi 🙂
#logistics-operations - April 17, 2024 at 03:11 AM
No worries! Good luck! FYI, Flavorcloud have the ability to bolt on to Shopify like Passport (duties and taxes calculated and paid upfront at Shopify level) and have Australia origin service to intl locations.
#logistics-operations - April 17, 2024 at 02:30 AM
I last updated this in 2022. So some countries may have made changes in that time.
has updated de minimis values and more of a breakdown by country. E.g. I list Canada with a $150 de minimis and tax free below $40, but that only applies to goods arriving from the US and Mexico. For goods arriving from other countries, it's a $20 de minimis. I keep mine simple because most cross-border clients for me are Canada to US/Intl or US to Canada/Intl.
