Hey crew, how do you guys do free shipping without losing profit? We did free shipping on orders over $40 but got a lot of abandons from first-timers.

Sergey Sapelnyk May 25, 2023 at 12:13 AM

We do over $50, but have bundles that push customers closer to ~$70 AOV. Playing around with pushing the threshold even higher though...

Brittany Bygrave May 25, 2023 at 12:14 AM

@Sergey Sapelnyk Does that work for first-timers? Bundles work great for our returning.

Sergey Sapelnyk May 25, 2023 at 12:16 AM

We still have some people spending <$30 (1 product), but we charge them $7 shipping 😁 honestly no way around it for us, with a heavy product (for drinkpearly.com, not the biz in my bio)

@Sergey Sapelnyk Same here! Are you guys on Shopify Plus? I’m thinking I can try to incentivize a bit more with the free shipping bar in cart but I’m on the basic plan: https://www.butterdbodycare.co/

Sergey Sapelnyk May 25, 2023 at 12:31 AM

Nope we're on the basic plan too! We just built that free shipping thing ourselves. I'm not sure how much of an impact it has on conversion tbh. How high is your dropoff that you think the shipping is a big barrier?

Brittany Bygrave May 25, 2023 at 12:34 AM

@Sergey Sapelnyk We just started ads and def see about a 20% increase in abandons. It could be anything but if they make it to checkout and drop — I think its safe to see if it’s shipping.
