We have a major household name brand in our market copy us, introducing a 98% similar product as ours to try to take away our sales and cause customer confusion. We do a lot of volume and our product is #1 in the category in the whole market. They even literally ripped some sections of our PDP.
I'm thinking, since we're technically a smaller brand and they're a major household name (they sponsor celebs, stars etc)... is there a way we can use this to our advantage? Using their reputation to push us forward even more. I was thinking or running a bunch of awareness ads like
"When you're the best, others copy. But real innovation goes deeper than looks"
"Some brands try to copy us, but we keep innovating"
"Innovation is not something you can clone"

Yep, Peak Design did this with Amazon when Amazon copied their design.

One big thing is, we cannot call them out directly due to defamation laws, can get us in legal trouble. So I cannot name the brand specifically

You can misspell them or say "one of the largest" -- stuff like that should be fine but discuss with your lawyer

Saying something like “Big (whatever product brand)”
Like big toothpaste or big calculator is a playful spin on it

No. Do nothing but make your product good. Don’t get into a wiener measuring contest or snark off. It’s bad for business and it’s hacky advertising. This happens all the time when larger brands see smaller ones having success and you’re better off serving your customers and churning out a quality product. I’ve dealt with it, Apple has dealt with it, shit even Saturday night live dealt with it. You have to be restrained and let them piss money.
