Do you have a preferred Shopify app to capture pre-orders for a product currently out of stock?
Got any recs or have you had any experience with this? @Deb Mukherjee @Jarrod Sanders @Jared Holstad @Henry Johnson @Mike K @Evadney @Jeremy Watson @Hongying Song <@U08KSCGLKUY> @Karolina Smith @Jim Huffman @Ricky Gilbert @Kevin Miguet @Jocelyn Dunkley
Preferably if it puts the orders on hold so my fulfillment center doesn't get angry at me
Ah good idea
My recommendation would be to build the pre-order functionality directly into your own product page. It’s not a difficult build, and it gives you more control than relying on an app. Customers can still place orders even when the item is out of stock, and once the stock arrives, orders can be processed seamlessly.
If you want to capture payment 50/50 or another broken up way then you would need to use an app. I’ve used . The app is a little confusing but it lets you really tailor the preorder payment conditions in case you only want to have preorder for some variants of a product or only accept X number of preorders before saying it’s sold out.
For other clients we’ve set up a system where we set the product as “continue selling when out of stock” and add a “Preorder” tag to the product. The preorder tag makes the add to cart say preorder and it also says preorder in the cart. We have a Shopify flow that adds a preorder tag to the order as well and in the client notifications add specific info about when it will ship out. That requires a bit of coding but it’s been straightforward
Hey Mike,
Purple Dot solves this problem for Shopify brands ()
Happy to make an intro if you would like one.
Yeh we use globo pre order. It's the best one we have found, however still super clunky, confusing and somewhat unreliable at times.
