Anyone have lots of quiz experience with Shopify? I need to integrate a quiz for my client's new Shopify site (moving over from WooCommerce) and trying to figure out the best approach. It has pretty complex logic, so I'm not sure if the Shopify apps could handle it (plus, I hear they are really expensive). I'm considering either: 1) Hiring a javascript developer to custom build it; 2) keeping the quiz on Wordpress and referring traffic through the quiz there and then back to Shopify when they get the results and click a product selection.

I'd love to talk to someone who can help me understand the pros and cons of each option. I'm especially concerned about losing data that a Shopify app would capture and would love to better understand how you are using data from quiz answers so I can see if there are any workarounds to capture it.

No direct experience but if you are looking for a product quiz there are several Shopify plugins for that

@Nick Tollison yes, I'm aware. As I mentioned, I'm not sure that they could handle the complex logic. Plus, I've heard that they are really expensive ($150-250/month for more complex quizzes, which is a lot for this small company).

@Bryn Hassan @Rubens Ferner @Theo van Wyk do you have any experience with this?

Rubens Ferner December 18, 2025 at 06:52 PM

I think it is probably better to hire a developer to build this from scratch since it sounds complex. Having it built-in Shopify in the long run will be better. I don't know if a Developer will be cheaper than the monthly quiz fee honestly.

agree with Rubens, 100% get it on shopify, depending on the size of the brand id say go with a developer to get it exactly how you want it

@Rubens Ferner and @Bryn Hassan my Shopify developer said that if we build it in javascript within Shopify, we won't be able to save answers and associate them with the user’s profile the way that the apps can. I was hoping to save answers to a couple of the questions to help us customize our emails (e.g., if someone answers that they have black hair, our emails will serve up images of black hair dyes). Is there any way to get that info attached to a profile from a javascript quiz (assuming that quiz taker also enters their email in our opt-in pop-up)?

Bryn Hassan December 18, 2025 at 07:31 PM

it would probably be easier to just use an app then, despite the cost unfortunately

Dana Doron December 18, 2025 at 07:33 PM

@Bryn Hassan I'll have to see if they can even handle such a large data set for the logic.

Hey Dana.

Yes. They get expensive super quick. We've also decided to code it.

Best and cheapest long term solution.

Dana Doron December 21, 2025 at 04:39 AM

@Theo van Wyk Do you have a good app developer to recommend?

Theo van Wyk December 24, 2025 at 07:51 AM

Hey Dana! Unfortunately not, we use our internal dev for these jobs.

Theo van Wyk December 24, 2025 at 07:52 AM

You should be able to find a really good one on storetasker!

Thanks for getting back to me @Theo van Wyk I found someone independent and more affordable for my small company client.
